It all started with a title but then grew into an experience that you won't soon forget. Seventeen strangers, all living their lives after a loss. Experiencing love, sorrow, anger, sadness, hope, elation, depression, confusion, joy, and just enough crazy to keep things interesting. A Beloveds Death is uniquely written, chapter to chapter. Highlighting each individual's story. Unraveling their mysteries, revealing all of their secrets, and just when you think you have it all figured out. A twist changes everything. Much like life itself.

"No one noticed me. So, I took a few slow steps making my way farther into the room. My mom had her eyes squeezed shut as if there was something in the room that she wanted desperately not to see. My dad's eyes were ringed in dark blue/purple skin. The cop acknowledged me with a tip of his cap. I nodded but didn't say anything. A thought kept gnawing at me. Where is Abrielle?" - Ariel

     What? And Why?

Probably the most common question I get asked these days is "what is your first book about?" Which usually, pretty close to always, is followed by "why did you write this book?" So, here it is...
A Beloveds Death is a collection of stories. Each with a similar theme. The grief process that follows the loss of a loved one. In some chapters, it's a parent. In some a best friend or a sibling. But always it's mostly about the ones who are still here. The people who have to figure out how to go on, even though they have gone through something that has changed them forever. It's about the similarities and vast differences in everyone's experience. And how no one will process their loss the same way that someone else does. Because it turns out that dying is the most individual experience that everyone will eventually have. It's about the grief, the sadness, the anger, and the confusion. But also about the healing, the hope, the joy, and the contentment that life can still bring if you let it. And I feel that this book is also about the escape. A way for you to monetarily forget about what is bothering you in your real life by getting lost in the storylines within the pages.
As for why I wrote this book...

When I was seventeen, my favorite day of the week was Sunday. My sister would come over with her kids and everyone would sit around the kitchen table. Listening to the radio and doing puzzles or usually playing cards. Well everyone else would play cards. I was usually sitting off to the side with my own deck making card castles, but that isn't the point. The point is that everyone was together on that day. And we always had a good time. Like this one day, I was about to beat my mom at a game of rummy with everyone watching when she suddenly yelled out "you little half pepper you!"  O my gosh, I don't think I had ever laughed so hard at anything ever. It was great. Then later that same year, September 11, 2004, my mom passed away suddenly. She went to work one morning and I went to school like every other day. Then that night after we had eaten dinner she had a heart attack. And I
didn't know what to do. I can remember that my hands were shaking so badly from fear that it took me two times to dial in 9-1-1 on the phone. That night I stayed with a family friend. And the next morning everything about my world was different. I remember it like it was yesterday. I was sitting on the sofa at Lynne's reading a book in the Roswell series. The cover was grey and had Max and Liz on it, but I don't remember the title. My sister walked in the front door without knocking and barely managed to get the words out "she's gone" That was it, that was all she had to say, was all she could say. And just like that the only person in the world that I ever felt (still feel) was the only one who ever truly got me, was gone. It was a very isolating feeling for me. And despite everyone rallying around and showing their support I had never felt more alone then I did at that time. Trying to deal I began reading every "life after a loss" and "dealing with grief" book that I could get my hands on. Most of which, didn't help me at all. For me, they fell into two categories, clinical or fiction. It was either step by step processes that made me feel like I was nothing more than a number or it was a good story, but not relatable enough to be helpful. And then three short years later when my dad passed away. It was the same thing. So there are many reasons why I wrote this book. It was a release for me, a diary of sorts. But also I wanted it to be a tool that someone else could use to make what they are going through a little easier. I wrote this book to help people would be the simplest answer. But also, I have always been an artist and it was very important to me to tell a good story in the process. Something that draws you in and makes you wonder what is coming next. And I think I accomplished that.   And based on the reviews that I have gotten from the people who have read it, they think I accomplished it too.
